We are now inviting applications for the 2012 entry to The Prince’s Foundation’s Graduate Fellowships in Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism. The deadline for applications for this year’s programme is 20 April 2012.

The Graduate Fellowship will commence in July 2012 and will be hosted by The Prince’s Foundation in London, and will involve placements at The Foundation. Subject to performance, Graduate Fellows will spend a second year in a placement with committed practitioners in the United Kingdom.

Our course is an established two-year Graduate Fellowship teaching the values of Sustainable Architecture & Urbanism, and carrying an MA in Sustainable Urbanism validated by the University of Wales.

We believe that that comprehensive and practical action is needed to train the next generation of architects and designers to evolve traditional approaches to planning and design in response to our contemporary crisis. This is where our MA in Sustainable Urbanism comes in.

The first year of our course includes a weekly Masterclass led by experts from our own staff and around the world. Meanwhile our students are placed in one of our departments for 3 1/2 days a week, learning alongside experienced professionals. We give students one day each week for reading, in our own specialist library or at the British Library and other research libraries in London. Meanwhile our students work on set essays (in the first and second term) and a research project on an aspect of sustainable urbanism, broadly considered. At the end of the year, we ask our students to present their research as a first year seminar for teaching staff and students.

In the second year, we help our students find a placement of their choice four days a week, while writing a dissertation on an aspect of sustainable urbanism of their choice. So far, students have managed to secure a wage of £20-22,000 per annum while they are on placement. We help out with contracts and sign a 3-way agreement with you, the placement provider, and the Foundation.

Starting in July, we host the first year of the course at our Shoreditch office in London. And depending on student’s ability and the economy the second year is a placement with one of our partners in the UK during which they have to complete a dissertation.
